    Autonomous Organisations under the Ministry of Culture: 

    1. The National School of Drama is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
    1. Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Art), New Delhi has preserved and documented a permanent collection of the highest order that reflects the vitality, complexity and unfolding patterns of contemporary, modern, folk and tribal art in India. 
    1. Sahitya Academy, India's premier literary institution preserves and promotes literature contained in Indian languages. 
    1. Sangeet Natak Academy was set up in the year 1953. It is responsible for preserving and promoting the vast intangible heritage of India’s rich and diverse culture depicted in the forms of music, dance and drama. 

    Dance-Teaching Institutions:

    Sangeet Natak Academy’s dance-teaching institutions are -the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) at Imphal and Kathak Kendra in Delhi. Kathak Kendra offers various courses in Kathak dance vocal music and Pakhawaj.

    Besides the above dance teaching institutions, the Akademi has five centres preserving and promoting varied art and cultural traditions of the country:

    1. Kutiyattam Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram for preserving and promoting the Sanskrit theatre of Kutiyattam, Kerala.
    1. Sattriya Kendra, Guwahati for promoting Sattriya traditions of Assam.
    1. North-East Centre, Guwahati for preserving folk performing art traditions of north-eastern India.
    1. North-East Documentation Centre, Agartala for festival and field documentation in the North-east. 
    1. Chhau Kendra, Chandankiyari for promoting the Chhau Dances of eastern India.

    Theatre in Education Company (T.I.E.)(Sanskar Rang Toli) of the National School of Drama was established on 16.10.1989. It is one of the important educational resources in India. It performs creative & curriculum-based participatory plays in schools to cater to different age groups. More than 800 performances of 26 plays have so far been staged by this company.

    NSD diploma course entrance exam :

    The National School of Drama conducts the National level entrance examination for candidates seeking admission to various programs by NSD. 

    The National School of Drama offers a three-year full-time post-graduate diploma course in dramatic arts. The Diploma in Dramatics awarded by the National School of Drama is recognised by the Government of India. 

    The NSD Admission in the Diploma is equivalent to an entry in the M.A. Degree in Dramatics as envisaged by the Association of Indian Universities for the purpose of appointments of teachers in colleges and Universities and for the registration for PhD programmes.

    NSD diploma course entrance exam 

    Qualified candidates are offered admission to NSD diploma duration of 3 years in the areas of Acting, Design, Drama-Direction, and other theatre-related disciplines provided by NSD.

    NSD eligibility for NSD Delhi Admission: 

    A candidate should have passed graduation in any discipline from any recognised University in India or Abroad.

    A candidate should have working knowledge of Hindi/English languages.

    A candidate must also have participated in at least six different theatre productions(attach document proofs of theatre experience i.e. certificate of participation, brochure, leaflet, newspaper clips etc.).

    A candidate is also required to furnish a recommendation letter from at least one eminent theatre expert. 

    The candidates, at the time of NSD admission to the diploma course, are also required to undergo physical fitness in the NSD campus/empanelled hospital.

    NSD eligibility w.r.t. Age criteria for NSD Admission :

    The NSD diploma course’s minimum age for NSD admission is 18 years. The maximum age NSD eligibility criteria is 30 years (Relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit with respect to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories).

    Application fee Rs. 50 Online mode; Rs. 225 Offline mode same for all the candidates of all the categories. NSD examination will be held in offline mode. 


    Selection process of NSD Admission: 

    For NSD admission, the eligible candidates need to appear in the Preliminary test conducted by the National School of Drama which mainly includes the audition test/testing of knowledge of theatre history, acting skills, and understanding of the subject.

    The test is conducted at various examination centres across India. The Preliminary stage may include a written test to evaluate theoretical knowledge in theatre-related topics. 

    Performance with regard to acting skills is evaluated through monologues, skits etc. The candidates who qualify in the preliminary test are required to participate in a workshop of mostly 5 days duration. 

    The final selection is made based on the combined performance in the Preliminary Test, Final Workshop, and Interview. Finally, selected candidates need to undergo physical fitness in the NSD campus/empanelled hospital.
